Saturday 1st of June: Opening of the Gallery’s largest contemporary Indigenous art exhibitionMy Country, I Still Call Australia Home: Contemporary Art from Black Australia, which features more than 300 works by over 115 Indigenous artists from across the country.

Celebrate the opening weekend of My Country, I Still Call Australia Home by enjoying a day of discussions, workshops and talks by artists, performers, writers and curators. All events are free.

11.30am | Meet the Artist: Gordon Hookey | Children’s Art Centre, Park Level
Meet Gordon Hookey and explore the Kangaroo Crew interactive exhibition in the Children’s Art Centre.

12noon | Artist talk: Archie Moore
Archie Moore provides insights into his series of works On a Mission from God 2012.

12.30pm | ‘Welcome to Country’ discussion | Cinema B
Hetti Perkins (host), Megan Cope, Michael Cook and Fiona Foley explore the different ways that country is expressed through contemporary art.

1.30pm | Artist talk
Reko Rennie speaks about his site-specific installation Trust the 2% 2013 on display in the GOMA foyer.

Live broadcast with RN’s Weekend Arts Host Sarah Kanowski. Featuring exhibition curator Bruce McLean, Curator, Indigenous Australian Art, QAGOMA, My Country publication authors and artists, with a special acoustic performance from musician Bunna Lawrie (Coloured Stone).

Brenda L Croft (host), Gordon Hookey, Douglas Watkin and Judy Watson discuss the significance of oral histories, archives and historical events for Indigenous artists.

Celebrate the opening of My Country, I Still Call Australia Home: Contemporary Art from Black Australia with a night of music, and a chance to see the exhibition after hours. At My Country’ Up Late, enjoy special musical performances by Archie Roach, together with the Medics and special guest Bunna Lawrie (Coloured Stone).
