The Tarnanthi 2020 Art Fair showcases works of art for sale from hundreds of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists across the continent. Paintings, carvings, weavings, jewellery, clothing, textiles and homewares are available for purchase, all at a new venue at Lot Fourteen in Adelaide’s CBD.

This year’s Art Fair features a curated display of selected works for sale, handpicked by community-run art centres to highlight established and next-generation artists. It also includes shop-style sales of countless works by artists from across Australia. In addition, a program of digital presentations will show artists making their work and discussing their motivations, traditions and environment.

This innovative format has been designed as a more intimate, COVID-safe event for 2020. It has been developed in close consultation with artist communities and in partnership with trusted not-for-profit organisation Agency.

The Tarnanthi Art Fair is also especially important this year to sustain financial support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Art production is a vital source of income in remote communities – income that supports economic empowerment and cultural resilience. Through the Art Fair, buyers are guaranteed that every dollar from sales goes directly back to artists and their communities. Tarnanthi Art Fair is an ethical sales event that supports the Indigenous Art Code.

With this year’s Art Fair held in early December, buyers can find unique Christmas ideas – and they can be sure that their fair and ethical purchase delivers a welcome gift in remote communities.

Tarnanthi is presented by the Art Gallery of South Australia with Principal Partner BHP and support from the Government of South Australia. The Tarnanthi Art Fair is presented in partnership with Lot Fourteen.

Note from the organiser: The Art Gallery of South Australia is following all SA Health direction and advice regarding the current COVID cluster in South Australia. The safety of the community is our highest priority.  While planning continues for the Tarnanthi Art Fair from 4-6 December at Lot Fourteen, including the construction of a marquee on the site, we will continue to assess the delivery of a COVID-safe event. Please visit our website and our social media closer to the event for details.
