In the case of an artwork initially sourced from an art centre:<\/p>\n
\n- It must be accompanied by an\u00a0authenticity certificate\u00a0indicating the\u00a0unique catalogue number\u00a0allocated by the art centre.<\/li>\n
- In the case of a painting, this number is\u00a0also written onto the back or side of the canvas, along with the artist and art centre\u2019s names.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
In the case of an artwork sourced by a dealer directly from an artist who does not belong to an art centre, as prescribed by the Indigenous Australian Art Commercial Code of Conduct, the artwork can only be sold if it is accompanied by a\u00a0Code certificate (approved by the Code\u00a0of Conduct).<\/p>\n
Assessing an artist\u2019s reputation through a biography:<\/p>\n
\n- Is he\/she part of\u00a0significant collections: museums, official institutions, eminent private collections?<\/li>\n
- Has he\/she\u00a0received an artistic prize\/award\u00a0(e.g. the annual National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Award and its 6 categories)?<\/li>\n
- Has the artist\u2019s work featured in\u00a0solo exhibitions\u00a0organised by\u00a0recognised bodies: museums and official institutions?<\/li>\n
- Has he\/she been featured in\u00a0group exhibitions\u00a0organised by recognised bodies: museums, official institutions, and official Award finalists\u2019 exhibition?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
