Photograph: Alex Torcutti<\/p><\/div>\n<p>As part of the major survey <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idaia.com.au\/en\/exhibitions\/john-mawurndjul-i-am-the-old-and-the-new\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">exhibition<\/a> of\u00a0John Mawurndjul&#8217;s work at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, a richly illustrated 400-page <a href=\"https:\/\/store.mca.com.au\/collections\/mca-catalogues\/products\/john-mawurndjul-i-am-the-old-and-the-new\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">book<\/a> has been released which contains a comprehensive overview of the artist\u2019s practice.<\/p>\n<p><em>John Mawurndjul: I am the old and the new<\/em>\u00a0reunites works of art from national and international collections made across a 40-year period.\u00a0John Mawurndjul AM (born 1952, Kubukkan near Marrkolidjban, western Arnhem Land, Northern Territory, Australia) has led the development of this exhibition, which describes in Kuninjku (and English) his places of special cultural significance known as kunred, as well as the sacred places and spirits \u2013 or Djang \u2013 that resurface time and time again in his art-making.
