Through a selection of paintings, sculptures and painted objects, the exhibition explores how artists incorporate their culture into their works, whether in wood, ceramic or canvas, and how each object tells a story.

A wide variety of materials, techniques and supports used by artists who live in different parts of Australia (Central Deserts, Kimberley, Arnhem Land, New South Wales) are presented, like so many culture vessels:

Acrylic paintings, ocher paintings, watercolor paintings, wood sculptures, ceramics, bark paintings, traditional objects and fine art jewelry.

Organised by social enterprise IDAIA in collaboration with the Incarnato association, the exhibition highlights works and objects rarely seen in France, coming from official Aboriginal artist cooperatives, available for sale to help support the ethical and sustainable sector of Aboriginal art.

“Peindre sa culture”, hosted in the new space of the Atelier Incarnato gallery, is the third part of IDAIA’s participation in the “Le Havre, Australian stopover” event organised by the city of Le Havre as part of the Australia now France 2021-22 program, after the exhibitions “Painting Now” at the Municipal Archives (July 10 – September 19, 2021) and “Land drawing – Land of drawing” at the Jardins Suspendus (July 10 – September 3, 2021).
