Starting next week: “Pmara Ingkarraka nhanha nama – Our country belongs to us” at the Art Gallery of South Australia explores the mesmerising landscapes across Aranda Country depicted in watercolour by the early Hermannsburg school of artists. The display features renowned Ntaria (Hermannsburg) artists such as Albert Namatjira, Otto Pareroultja, Herbert Raberaba and Walter Ebatarinja as well as several women artists from the time, such as Gloria Moketarinja and Cordula Ebatarinja, whose work and prominence were often overshadowed by the male artists.
This selection of works is part of a significant recent donation by Dr Beverly Castleman and Alan Castleman of ninety-three Ntaria watercolours spanning decades and generations, which enriches the Gallery’s collection.
