The Cairns Art Gallery introduces a powerful retrospective on Heather Wunjarra Koowootha’s work, titled “Collection in Focus”.

From watercolour paintings to traditional ecological knowledge of plants and marine life, she brings together traditional knowledge and oral storytelling passed down from her mother and father.

Though understandings and perspectives differ, plants and marine life are highly valued by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, as the natural world is considered interconnected and sacred.
